Sounder: Fishing Guide · Last updated July 18, 2026

The short version: your fishing data is yours. It lives on your device. We don't sell it, we don't show you ads, and we can't see your spots.

What Sounder stores, and where

Your catches, spots, photos, and settings are stored locally on your device. Using Sounder requires no account, no email, and no sign-up.

Optional sync

If you turn on cross-device sync (Settings), your catches, spots, and photos are stored in a private database (hosted on Supabase) tied to your email address, readable only by you. Turning sync off — or never turning it on — keeps everything local. You can erase all synced data from Settings at any time.

Location

Sounder uses your location to read the water where you are: tides, conditions, bite windows, and your closest spot. Location is used on-device and in requests to weather/tide services; it is never stored on our servers and never shared with other users.

Third-party services

To do its job, Sounder requests data from: NOAA (tides, charts), the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo (weather and marine conditions), NASA GIBS (sea temperature imagery), RainViewer (radar), OpenStreetMap/Overpass and OpenTopoData (water and depth information), and map tile providers (OpenStreetMap, Esri). These requests include the coordinates being looked up and standard request metadata, and are subject to those services' terms. The optional AI spot briefing sends the spot's conditions summary (never your name or catch history identifiers) to Anthropic's API to generate the text.

What we don't do

No ads. No analytics trackers. No selling or sharing of personal data. No social feed. Your spots are never visible to anyone else.

Your data, your controls

Export everything (JSON or CSV) or erase everything from Settings, any time. If you used sync and want your server-side data deleted, use Settings → Danger zone, or email us and we'll confirm deletion.

Children

Sounder is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.
